We would like to introduce a concept that uses age-old building techniques in a revolutionary new way. It allows superior construction of low cost housing using implemented. What is it? Compressed earth block (CEB) construction. This methodology is based on techniques that are thousands of years old. What makes it new is a machine that speeds up the block making process and creates a stronger, more uniform block. The block is then used for wall construction using traditional methods. Vermeer Manufacturing has modernized this concept so that it is now feasible for large scale projects. The united nations estimates that 1/3of the entire population of the earth lives in some form of earthen structure. The vast majority of those structures are adobe earth block homes. Compressed earth blocks use much of this traditional building knowledge but improve the block itself, making the process faster, stronger and easier to build. Here in the united states, this concept is being used to build multi-million dollar homes (see photo) because when done correctly, it builds a superior structure, even when compared to traditional methods of wood, concrete block or fired brick, Multi-story construction can also be done with CEBs in non-seismic areas as seen in the house below, using appropriate building techniques such as reinforced bond beams, proper width to height ratios and wire reinforcement.
